Tips and substitutions

Here are a few tips to help you make a perfectly spook-tastic cup of hot cocoa for Halloween:

  • For a dairy-free hot cocoa, use any plant-based milk instead of regular milk and a cup of full-fat coconut milk instead of heavy cream.
  • You can make this hot cocoa sugar-free by using your preferred sugar-free sweetener. Just make sure to use less and taste as you add it since they tend to be sweeter.
  • If you want to make extra spooky Halloween hot chocolate, pour it into cups and add different food colors to make a variety of colored hot cocoas.
  • For another pop of color, you can add food coloring to the whipped cream.
  • If you prefer a rich hot chocolate, you can use dark cocoa powder instead.
  • Pair the Halloween hot chocolate with these easy Witch Hat Cookies or gorgeous Hocus Pocus Cupcakes for an extra delightful Halloween treat!
